Traditional synthetic wigs cannot have heat applied to them; however, there are some styles that can tolerate heat. These wigs are called heat friendly, heat defiant, HD, or heat resistant. While they are not as common, most major suppliers carry a selection of them.
Heat defiant wigs are a good option for people who like to make minor or moderate adjustments to their styles. These fibers don’t respond exactly the same as hair does to heat styling, so someone who wants to make major adjustments may prefer a human hair wig.
Unfortunately, heat friendly wigs that are longer than shoulder length are notorious for frizzing up faster than their non-heat friendly counterparts. And, just because a wig can tolerate heat, doesn’t mean it can’t also develop heat damage. When styling a heat resistant wig, proper tools and products should be used to ensure best results. It is important to keep the temperature of the styling tool below 350F.
